SERIAL COMMUNICATIONS CABLES
Most serial communications problems stem from an incorrectly wired cable furnished (at low cost) by
some vendors. If using a PC compatible with either a 9-pin or a 25-pin D connector, we recommend
purchase of an RS232-01 cable from Axon Instruments or a "null-modem" cable from a good vendor.
This is the type of serial cable used to connect a computer to a pen plotter. It is not the type of cable
normally used to connect a modem.
With a Macintosh II, most serial printer cables should work well with the CyberAmp. The RS232-03
cable from Axon Instruments is suitable for connecting the CyberAmp to a Macintosh II.
To daisy chain multiple CyberAmps or compatible instruments onto one RS-232 port, a simple 25-pin
flat cable should be used. The RS232-02 cable from Axon Instruments is suitable.
If problems arise first check the cable connections with a meter to make sure that they correspond to
the connections shown in the table below.
To construct a cable to connect a computer to the CyberAmp, the minimum set of connections are as
follows.
For an IBM PC-AT with a 9-pin connector
IBM 9-pin 25-pin CyberAmp RS-232 IN
